Current Research Projects

The Privatisation of Education (ARC Discovery Project)

Together with Professor Bob Lingard (UQ), A/Professor Greg Thompson (QUT), Dr Anna Hogan (UQ) and Professor Stephen Ball (UCL IOE), I am a Chief Investigator on this ARC-funded project exploring the commercial provision of education worldwide and its implications for Australian education. We are exploring various forms of privatisation of education, mapping forms of commercial provision worldwide, and conducting case studies in northern Europe, Africa and Australasia.

Representations of Education in the Print Media

This project, funded by the University of Sydney Research Accelerator (SOAR) Fellowships program (2018-2019), uses innovative research methods (including corpus-assisted discourse analysis) to map print media representations of education in Anglophone countries since 1980. This research is the focus of a forthcoming research monograph, to be published by Bloomsbury in late 2020.

Teachers, Educational Data and Evidence-informed Practice

Also funded by the University of Sydney Research Accelerator (SOAR) Fellowships program (2018-2019), and conducted with Dr Meghan Stacey of UNSW, this project focuses on Australian teachers’ use of educational research, data generated both within and beyond their schools, and the enactment of authentic evidence-informed practice.
